Obama keeps U.S. troop withdrawal plan after Iraq poll

http://www.reuters.com/article/idUSTRE6261YI20100307

Obama's emphasis on Iraqi security forces' success supports his argument that U.S. troops can leave the country on time, freeing the president to put his foreign policy focus more squarely on the war in Afghanistan. Scores of mortar rounds, rockets and roadside bombs exploded near polling stations across Iraq, killing 38 people, in an apparent effort to scare voters participating in the election for Iraq's second full-term parliament since the 2003 U.S. invasion.

A First Look At Obama's New Afghan Policy

http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2009/03/a-first-look-at-obamas-new-afghan-policy/6992/

Article 2, Section 2 - The President shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several State...

President Barack Obama's new posture toward Afghanistan and Pakistan, to be unveiled tomorrow, codifies for the first time Iran's role in regional diplomacy, emphasizes counter terrorism as the primary mission of U.S. policy, and includes a multi-modal surge of civilians and economic aid to both countries. In seeking to reassure Americans that help to Pakistan is contingent on internal reforms, he plans to stress that Americans will work with those in both countries who demonstratively seek peace and reconciliation. The article says that this will be interpreted as a warning to both President Asif Ali Zardari in Pakistan and President Hamid Karzai in Afghanistan.

Justices, 5-4, Reject Corporate Spending Limit

Article 6 - All Debts contracted and Engagements entered into, before the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be as valid against the United States under this Constitution, as under the Confederation.

http://www.nytimes.com/2010/01/22/us/politics/22scotus.html

Overruling two important precedents about the First Amendment rights of corporations, a bitterly divided Supreme court ruled that the government may not ban political spending by corporations in candidate elections.Though the decision does not directly address them, it also applies to the labor unions that are often at political odds with big business.  This ruling represents a sharp shift, and it will have major political and practical consequences. Specialists in campaign finance law said they expected the decision to reshape the way elections were conducted. The Supreme decided the case in a 5 to 4 ruling, saying that corporate spending cannot have a limit placed on it.

I think that there should be a limit on how much a business can spend at one time. This would help businesses to keep some of their money in case so they will not go bankrupt and if everybody gets fired, then there would be nothing to save the company.

Fifth Amendment Court Cases - Grand Jury Exception Clause

http://www.revolutionary-war-and-beyond.com/fifth-amendment-court-cases-grand-jury-exception-clause.html

Article 3, Section 2 - The Trial of all Crimes, shall be by Jury; and such Trial shall be held in the State where the said Crimes shall have been committed; but when not committed within any State, the Trial shall be at such Place or Places as the Congress may by Law have directed.

A while ago, a 1950 case called Johnson vs. Eisentrager, the Supreme Court ruled that captured enemy soldiers, who were not citizens of the United States, could not challenge their detention in American courts. The Court ruled that foreign enemies have no more rights than Americans do. They reasoned that American citizens conscripted into the military service are thereby stripped of their Fifth Amendment rights.

I do not think that anyone who is detained as a enemy combatant should just have the court give him a punishment without first giving him a trial, even if they are not from this country. They should have the rights that everyone else in the U.S has.

Judge says Feds violated 10th Amendment by subverting state marijuana laws

Article 2, section 3: The Citizens of each State shall be entitled to all Privileges and Immunities of Citizens in the several States.

An example of the federal authorities violations of the 10th Amendment was their pursuit of WAMM. This non-profit group has been around for many years, and has been fully supported by the city and county of Santa Cruz. They have been referred to, by officials, as the model medical marijuana patient's collective. When the ACLU filed this lawsuit to stop them from targeting medical marijuana providers and patients, they opened a door that may finally lead to no federal interference in California's medical marijuana law.

I think that it is ok for the FBI to do this and should not be a violation of the 10th amendment laws. It should be checked out because they might be selling it for other purposes than for medicine. It might be sold for personal purposes, which is against the states laws.

Does the Fourth Amendment cover 'the cloud'?

http://news.cnet.com/8301-19413_3-10436425-240.html

Article IV, section 2: The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

This article is about one of the biggest issues facing individuals and corporations choosing to adopt public cloud computing or any other internet service. Many computers used for personal and business use are not being protected from being searched by the government without your permission.Over the last decade, courts adjudicated whether the government can access evidence of illegal activity stored on digital technology without violating the Fourth Amendment.

I think that any computers should not be checked without the owners permission. I say this because I use computers all the time and would not want anyone to search through the things on my computer without first asking me.

New 'Internet Consorship' Bill Rushed Through Congress

http://www.menwithfoilhats.com/2010/06/new-internet-censorship-bill-rushed-through-congress/

There is a bill going through congress right now called "The Protecting Cyberspace Act". This bill is intended to prevent a cyber 9/11 in which computer hackers take aim at important American infrastructures that mainly use the internet. Some of these targets are nuclear power plants, banks, and pentagon computer networks. Most computer hackers are Chinese. many also believe that the Chinese government organises the hacks on the U.S computer network.

I think that this bill is necessary because computer hackers can disable U.S defence systems and put viruses on many sites. Not so long ago, there was a massive Chinese computer hack on Google that caused the security on the sight to crash. After cyber attacks, most websites tighten there security and may block out users from the country, state, or city that they think have attacked the sight.
